A little help to our friends
At our last meeting I had mentioned that I took the opportunity to leverage some of the NASCAR tickets to collect money for charity since there was a timely request from the community for assistance (In our Church bulletin). The distribution of the tickets was going slow, with a rather anemic response from club members, so why not share the wealth.
The sale of a few tickets generated $315.00 and was slated to support the Sister M. Regis Food Cupboard in downtown Rochester. I went to a local food distributor this morning and purchased a variety of fresh produce for them to offer to 25 or more needy families in their general area. The total purchase was approximately $324.00 and here is what we donated:
- 1 case of select cucumbers
- 1 case of collard greens
- 1 case of iceberg lettuce
- 1 case of zucchini squash
- 1 case of yellow squash
- 50lbs of yellow onions
- 150lbs of potatoes
- 25 watermelons
- 1 large case of corn on the cob
- 50lbs of carrots
- 2 cases of red tomatoes
The manager of the store offered to personally deliver the product this Tuesday morning, prior to their family distributions. The special thanks for delivery goes to Brad Hurlbut, manager of the Maines Food Service in Greece NY. My personal thanks goes out to the editor of our weekly church bulletin for bringing visibility to the need.
