Zone 1 – 48 Hours at the Glen – Driver Education*
We are blessed that the storied Watkins Glen Race Track is located in Zone 1 and delighted that we’re able to take you there for the Zone 1 “48 Hours at the Glen” DE weekend. Whether you’re a novice or experienced DE driver, don’t miss this opportunity to drive in the tracks of past glorious winners of Formula 1, NASCAR, Trans-Am, IROC and IndyCar races that have been held here over the years. Watkins Glen is a well-maintained, gorgeous track with 11 corners and wonderful elevation changes. It is set in a beautiful location, a short drive from the historic town of Watkins Glen. Just like at your own region DE events, you’ll be organized into run groups, so that you’re on the track with others of similar experience and capability. Instructors ride with drivers in the less advanced run groups, providing guidance and feedback to help the drivers develop their skills during the weekend. This event also includes the National Instructor Training Program which takes place on the preceding Friday.
If you’ve been meaning to drive the Watkins Glen track, but have never quite got around to it, this is the year to do it. Just click on the link below to see more details and how to register. Come out and enjoy the track, the camaraderie and have yourself a great PCA Zone 1 weekend of fun.
LASTEST UPDATE!! April 18, 2021
The Zone 1 48 Hours Driver Education at Watkins Glen began in 1975. Continue the tradition and join us for the 47th consecutive year (almost) on June 11-13,
2021. Watkins Glen International is the continuation of a road racing tradition dating back to 1948, when sports cars raced on the 6.6 mile course through the
village of Watkins Glen. The permanent road course was built in 1956 and has remained the home of a great racing tradition for 55 years. Pricing and scheduling will be dependent
upon COVID rules in effect at the time registration opens. We will have in-car instruction at this event. COVID protocols will be in effect.
We will maximize track time by adding an extra hour of track time on Friday and Saturday by keeping the track open until 5:30 pm for 26 hours of hot track throughout the weekend.
There will be expanded passing in the Instructor Run Groups throughout the weekend. PCA National Instructor Training will occur on Friday for those who qualify with a referral from their
region’s chief instructor.
Friday is still instructor day. However all drivers in the white (intermediate), black and red run groups
will be accepted to drive on Friday. The intermediate group will be given four driving sessions on Friday.
Not only great driving, great instructors and a great track, but there’ll also be Zone 1 swag for all
registrants who attend.
Don’t miss the Friday evening track walk available to all registrants. Saturday and Sunday will be run in
the traditional DE format with the track open until 5:30 PM on Saturday.
We will also allow for early trailer drop off beginning Thursday evening from 6-8PM. There may be
camping at the track from Thursday night through Saturday night for those who are interested.
