Unfortunately, the Observatory has decided to cancel all in-person tours for 2021.  We will try again in 2022.

Meet up for appetizers and dinner at 5:00 pm at the Rheinblick German Restaurant in Canandaigua, NY. I have spoken to them and a group size of approximately 20 should be manageable if the social gathering restrictions are lifted. Cocktails and Dinner will be self pay.

Short drive to the Mees Observatory located at:
C. E. K. Mees Observatory
6604 South Gannett Hill Road
Naples, NY 14512

Some info about the CEK Mees Observatory:
In partnership with the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Sciences (ASRAS), we offer free tours of the Mees Observatory. These tours are guided by a combination of senior ASRAS members, UR grad students and undergrads, and UR astrophysics faculty. The tours usually consist of an informational slide presentation about general astronomical topics, followed by the viewing of astronomical objects through the 24 inch Cassegrain reflector telescope. We expect to have excellent viewing for Jupiter, Saturn and the Rings, Mars, the Moon, and Milky Way.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
A) The P-Cars Planets & Stars event will be highly dependent on status of the COVID pandemic. The COVID pandemic restrictions on social gatherings will need to be lifted or MUCH more relaxed than currently in place.
B) This is a “Fair Weather Event Only” and will be canceled in the event of heavy cloud cover or rain that prevents use of the Telescope. Please email John if you are planning to attend this event. Check the NRPCA Calendar website in the morning on the day of the event for a “go/no go” message.
C) The Observatory driveway is steep and covered with gravel. We will be driving slowly, but if you are concerned about the ground clearance of your P-car, you are welcome to bring a different vehicle. Our drive to the Observatory will take only about 15 minutes and we won’t be going fast, so it’s not a P-Car mandatory drive.

Please contact John to let him know if you are planning on joining him for the event.

Check the website in the morning on the day of the event for a “go/no go” message.

A little info on Rheinblick German Restaurant

From a restaurant review…. “The culinary tastes at the restaurant provide a glimpse of northern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Authentic food is provided by the German-born owner who wishes to let people experience foods of his homeland.”
