Description of Observatory Tour: In partnership with the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Sciences (ASRAS), we offer tours of the Mees Observatory. The tours usually consist of an informational slide presentation about general astronomical topics, followed by the viewing of astronomical objects through the 24-inch Cassegrain reflector telescope.
A) The event is limited to 18 people. Please email John if you are planning to attend this event.
B) Masks must be worn inside all observatory buildings.
C) This observatory tour will be canceled in the event of heavy rain that prevents use of the Telescope. Check the NRPCA Calendar website in the morning on the day of the event for a “go/no go” message. If the observatory tour is cancelled, we may still have dinner at Reinblick’s.
C) The Observatory driveway is steep and covered with gravel. We will be driving slowly, but if you are concerned about the ground clearance of your P-car, you are welcome to bring a different vehicle.
D) It is recommended that we bring binoculars and jackets. It can get cool at night and the Observatory is not heated.
