Get your car out for a drive, have some coffee and doughnuts, then be home in time for your other plans. Please let me know if you have any questions.
Tech Inspections are mandatory for anyone attending our Driver Education events, and strongly recommended for anyone planning to Autocross. In addition, all Porsche owners are more than welcome to have their cars inspected. This is a terrific way to ensure your car is ready for the driving season.
At a tech inspection your car will be put on a lift, wheels will be removed, and a general check-up of your cars road and/or track worthiness will be performed. Some of the items checked are suspension components, safety systems, belts and hoses, fluids, bearings, brakes, tires and wheels, and exhaust system. Links to the actual Tech Inspection form, and the Rules & Regulations, can be found on the Driver Education page of the Niagara PCA website.
Tech Inspections are first come first served, so arrive early. Drivers are expected to assist in removing and replacing their own wheels, so please dress appropriately. Of course, there will be plenty of people on hand to assist. Anyone interested in helping at either of the Tech Inspections can contact Mike Zotter. Assistance is always greatly appreciated!

Come and join us for a day in the woods shooting some sporting clays. I along with Dick Cott have reached out to Jeff Kunzer at the Williamson gun Club for a round of clays. They are willing to set up a round of 50 clay bird targets for us. If you haven’t tried this in the past it’s a lot of fun and embarrassment at the same time, missing and occasionally finding success. It’s $15.00 per round of fifty clay birds. You will need your own ammo and shot gun. They will go over some safety protocols and probably a waiver. This a small club in the town of Williamson east of Rochester but offers a lot of fun and enjoyment for all. So come out and sharpen your skills with a day in the woods. This is a non PCA event. * Because of the nature of this type of event I would like to keep it between 5 and 10 members. I need rsvp’s by April 30th. You can contact me at danielsliwinski@aol.com |

Join us for the 21st Annual CLASH AT THE GLEN CLUB RACE June 16th – June 18th, 2023
Hosted by the Regions of Zone 1 at Watkins Glen International Raceway in Watkins Glen, NY
If you’re a PCA racer, Watkins Glen has got to be on your bucket list of tracks to drive. If you’ve driven it before, don’t miss this chance to come back to improve your times and win on this track where great racers such as Jack Brabham, Stirling Moss and Dan Gurney found glory.
Maybe it’s the sheer joy of racing on this superb, well-maintained track with its thrilling elevation changes, or imagining they are running with Mario Andretti, Jacky Ickx or Derek Bell, that brings out over 250 racers from all over the USA and Canada to make this Zone 1 Club Race the largest on the PCA Club Racing circuit. PCA members are welcome to attend and perhaps consider how they may make the transition from Driver Education to Club Racing.
All participating drivers will receive a special “Port Authority” Clash Jacket with 20th Anniversary Commemorative embroidery as seen in our PCA Club Racing magazine ad! Friday will begin the weekend with a full day of race practice and Fun Races/Practice Starts. Saturday will feature 2 Sprint Races for all classes in four race groups. Immediately following the last race, there will be an optional Social Hour with open bar, Dinner, Raffle, and Race Awards Announcements in the Watkins Glen Media Center.
On Sunday, following the morning warm-up sessions, we will have 3 – 60-minute Enduro races that will run back-to-back through the normal Watkins Glen lunch hour. This will allow for maximum participation with no refueling and drivers being able to do the whole Enduro with or without a co-driver or team support. The change also makes for an earlier finish and the ability to get home at a more reasonable time. Tentatively the last Enduro race will end at 12:45 PM with the Pirelli Awards ceremony at 1:00 PM.
Early Registration and hotel reservations are recommended (registration usually opens in April). Additionally, the Volunteer Registration page is up on MotorsportReg.com.
Visit the Zone 1 website at http://zone1.pca.org or http://register.pca.org for more details.
For additional information, contact Pete Tremper at tremper9146@aol.com or 609.221.3854 or Jim Morgan at morganjd@nycap.rr.com or 518.677.0881.
Established in 2001 as part of the Porsche Club of America Club Racing Program, “The Clash at the Glen” is an event you must attend, either as a racer or as a volunteer. Held at the historic Watkins Glen Race Track, nestled in the Finger Lakes Region of New York State, this track is one that cannot be missed. There will be almost 300 racing Porsches!! This is one of the biggest Porsche racing events in the country. The three day event is free for club members (bring your club membership card to get in the gate) and is great chance to get see Porsche racing up close with open access to the paddock and pits. And another great reason to go: there are 10 or so racers from the Niagara Region who will be racing at the three day event. Let’s support our region!!
Held in late May/early June, this event is one where racers must register early. Being such a historic track and one of the best drives in the country, race classes fill up quickly. Not only can this race accomodate up to 300 racers, the volunteer effort over 50 volunteers from various Regions throughout the Zone is an effort second to none. In order to make this event a success every year we rely on the volunteers to make it happen. Without their effort this race would not be possible. We look forward to seeing you at The Clash this year!
Early registration and hotel reservations are recommended.
Visit the Zone 1 website for event details.
Clash at the Glen Tentative Schedule
There is no better way to help support Zone 1, than by volunteering for this year’s Clash at the Glen Club Race. Held at one of the best and most historic racetracks in the country, the Clash brings together club members for 3 days of fun and exciting racing, which you can be a part of. Volunteers are what enable us to put on one of the best club races in PCA. We encourage you, your family and friends to register as volunteers for this year’s Zone 1 Clash at the Glen Club Race.
One of Buffalo’s Best Cultural Experiences
On this two-hour tour, our boat transports you to Silo City via the Buffalo River. As we walk through Silo City, see and hear what made Buffalo the largest grain port in the world for 100 years.

There has been some discussion regarding access to Tewksbury Lodge due to bridge closures.
You do not have to use either the Michigan Bridge or the Ohio Street Bridge to get to the Tewksbury Lodge. It is located on the east side of the river, not the west side like River Works. Below are instructions from the East. If they are coming from the South Towns, they should stay on Route 5 until it merges with the 190.
Also, there is a paved parking lot next to the building and across the street is a large grass parking area. Ohio Street also has a “parking lane” on the same side as the Lodge.

Since 1993, the Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen presented by Chemung Canal Trust Company has celebrated our heritage of motor racing. Last year, an estimated 25,000 spectators helped us celebrate. As in previous years, a tribute to the Grand Prix races are featured in a variety of events during this all day festival. Events include the Walk of Fame award ceremony, a historical lecture called The Legends Speak, a pre-race Tech Inspection at Smalley’s Garage, as well as several rolling events and two car shows known as the Stone Bridge Driver Events.
The featured highlight of the Festival is a tribute to the original Grand Prix races using the original 6.6 mile road course. Always a crowd pleaser, the Watkins Glen Grand Prix Tribute is designed to recreate the ambiance of the 1948-52 Watkins Glen street races. The race tribute is open to selected Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) cars participating in the The U.S. Vintage Grand Prix races held at the nearby Watkins Glen International race course on the same weekend as the festival.
Featured model for 2023 is the Corvette.
If you own a qualifying automobile and would also like to participate in the festival, you are not alone. Nearly twelve hundred festival attendees will choose to participate in the Festival by registering, as driver/navigator teams, in one of seven Stone Bridge Driver events. Each of the participants in these events share two things in common: a passion for driving classic sports cars and a desire to relive some of the excitement of driving on the original 6.6 mile circuit during the festival. Please Note: Only 650 eligible sports and/or classic cars may register for these events and the slots fill very quickly.
At the Grand Prix Festival of Watkins Glen, presented by Chemung Canal Trust, there is something for everyone! Parked along the main streets of the village you will find over 600 classic sports cars of all ages and marques for your enjoyment. In addition to live music, wine tasting, food courts, and assorted other family activities, a variety of vendors of racing items and related Merchandise are provided for your entertainment and pleasure. Oh, and did we mention the fantastic fireworks at dusk?

Time for the annual Porschetoberfest 2023! I know it’s still summer but September is a summer month! The event will take place at the Flying Bison Brewery on September 23rd 11:00 a.m. The brewery is located in the Larkinville district on Seneca Street, we have exclusive parking in the backyard but it is a little tricky to get to because of modifications at the front Brewery lot. So two ways in, either through the Paula’s Donuts entrance on Seneca Street, whereby you drive to the back of the lot and keep left, or a driveway on Smith Street (510 Smith Street GPS) and look for my orange cone – proceed through keeping to the right and you will end up in the backyard.
We will be serving traditional German sausages from Spar’s European meats along with German pretzels, cheese and mustards. Of course there is great beer inside the brewery. Please RSVP for the food count and any questions you may have.
P.S. Club prospects are welcome.
Thank you, fellow members,
Thomas G. Vossler
Please contact Tom if you plan on attending, so he can plan food accordingly.
This is a non-competitive driving event, focusing on learning high performance driving techniques in a controlled environment. Includes in-car instruction, classroom presentations, and plenty of track time.

The Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course ranks among America’s premier road racing facilities. The track has hosted every major American road racing series worthy of the name, and the list of drivers who have stood atop Mid-Ohio’s victory podium is a Who’s Who of racing greats.
Constructed near Mansfield, OH in 1962 by Les Griebling and several prominent local businessmen, Mid-Ohio originally featured a 2.4 mile, 15 turn layout consisting of a blend of fast, medium and slow speed corners, one long straightaway and several dramatic elevation changes. Although the track was updated over the years, Jim Trueman (founder of the Red Roof Inn motel chain and TrueSports Racing) thoroughly modernized the facility after acquiring the track in 1982. In addition to a new garage, paddock and operations tower, the update tweaked the track layout by by-passing the Keyhole chicane, resulting in an optional 2.25 mile, 13 turn circuit.
Both configurations begin with the daunting Turn One, a blind, 100+ mph corner, include a roller-coaster series of esse bends known as “Madness” and conclude with a near-360 degree Carousel that has a virtually unlimited number of lines and apexes. More recently, a “short course” was created by connecting the exit of Turn One to the backstraightaway, and there is also a new mini-oval utilizing the Keyhole Hairpin and another 180 degree turn linking the track on the approach and exit to the Keyhole.
In its near-fifty-year history, Mid-Ohio has hosted America’s premier racing series including the United States Road Racing Championship, Can-Am, Trans-Am and Formula 5000, along with IMSA, IndyCar and NASCAR races. As well, Mid-Ohio has long been a club racing mecca and enjoyed a 12 year run as the home of the Sports Car Club of America’s National Championship Runoffs from 1994 through 2005.
Day 1 -Learn why your vehicle performs the way it does and how to maximize that performance on the street for more driving enjoyment and to be prepared for any emergency situation.
Day 2 – Refine your new high performance skills, learn more precise lines, and apply these during high-speed cornering and lead follow lapping drills. Finish the day with several hours of open lapping with controlled passing.
Day 3 – Want more track time? We all do! The Lapping Program is the one for you. You will spend a full day lapping Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course and see why the track is called the “Most Competitive in the U.S.” The highly experienced instructors will teach you not only the fastest way around Mid-Ohio, but also the race craft to get you to the checkered flag first!

The Tire Rack Street Survival® school is a safe teen driving program designed to go beyond today’s required driver education and give teens across the U.S. the driving tools and hands-on experience they need to become safer, smarter drivers. The school provides trained and qualified in-car driving instructors as well as a valuable classroom experience for each student.
This school is open to permitted or licensed drivers ages 15-21.
The primary emphasis of the Tire Rack Street Survival® is a “hands-on” driving experience in real-world situations! We use your own car to teach you about its handling limits and how you can control them. The students will become more observant of the traffic situation they find themselves in. They will learn to look far enough ahead to anticipate unwise actions of other drivers. As the students master the application of physics to drive their cars, they will make fewer unwise driving actions themselves. They will understand why they should always wear their own seatbelts, and why they should insist that their passengers wear seatbelts, too.
Three parents, including Scott Goodyear, former Indy Car Champion, share their perspectives in this video.
It’s about more than driving – it’s about LIVING!
All Schools $95.
Note to our Street Survival participants, including parents, students, coaches, organizers, and volunteers. While in the current COVID-19 environment, every attempt will be made to minimize the risks of exposure to the virus. A little history about VIR:The track originally opened August 3, 1957 and was created by a group of men using a bulldozer. The track had been closed from 1974 prior to its reopening in March 2000. The track was reopened in 2000 by New Yorker Harvey Siegel and Connie Nyholm using a “country club” model. Memberships to the track are sold. Each member of the VIR Club receives track time on member days, tickets to all spectator events, and other benefits. VIR’s membership model has since been followed by other racetracks across the United States.
The track hosted the SCCA National Sports Car Championship from its opening in 1957 until the series’ demise in 1964. The IMSA GT Championship visited VIR in 1971 and 1972. After its re-opening, the AMA Superbike Championship held races at VIR from 2001 until 2010 on the North Course. The Rolex Sports Car Series utilized the Full Course from 2002 through 2011. The American Le Mans Series used the Full Course configuration for its inaugural event at VIR in September 2012 where a new track record was set by Klaus Graf driving the Muscle Milk LMP1 car.
Driving a Maserati 450S, Carroll Shelby won the feature race on the track’s inaugural weekend in August 1957. The list of other well-known drivers who raced at VIR during its first incarnation includes Briggs Cunningham, Roger Penske, Mark Donohue, Richard Petty, Bob Holbert, Augie Pabst, Curtis Turner, Dick Thompson, Peter Revson, Wendell Scott, Bob Tullius, Janet Guthrie, Skip Barber, Ricky Rudd, Gene Felton, Denise McCluggage, Hurley Haywood, Brock Yates, Don Yenko, Lance Reventlow, Dan Gurney and Parnelli Jones.
The track hosts many events throughout the year including the annual Gold Cup Historic Race as well as AMA races, ChampCar Endurance Series, SCCA, NASCAR test days, and local car clubs. Various driving training classes are available on the paved and unpaved (off-road) courses. The site also hosts a go kart track.
Since 2014, VIR has hosted a GT only race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship.
**Please note: This HPDE event is not sponsored by NRPCA, it is sponsored and hosted by the NNJRPCA, hence it will not be covered by the PCA Insurance program. Also, though some of our participants may be part of an informal caravan to head to and back from the track, those activities are likewise not sponsored by NRPCA and therefore not covered by PCA Insurance.**
