The HPDE Committee is pleased to announce that Niagara on the Road 2019 will be going to Road Atlanta October 5th-6th! This fabled 2.54 mile road course has been home to Petit LeMans since 1998 and is recognized as one of the world’s best road courses.
Mark your calendars! More information to follow.

Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is a 2.54-mile (4.088 km) road course located just north of Braselton, Georgia, United States. The facility is utilized for a wide variety of events, including professional and amateur sports car and motorcycle races, racing and driving schools, corporate programs and testing for motorsports teams. The track has 12 turns, including the famous “esses” between turns three and five; and Turn 12, a downhill, diving turn. The track is owned by IMSA Holdings, LLC through its subsidiary Road Atlanta, LLC, and is the home to the Petit Le Mans, as well as AMA motorcycle racing, and smaller events throughout the year. Michelin acquired naming rights to the facility in 2018.  In case you want a little more history, click here.

**Please note: This HPDE event is not sponsored by NRPCA, it is sponsored and hosted by Chin Motorsports, hence it will not be covered by the PCA Insurance program. Also, though some of our participants may be part of an informal caravan to head to and back from the track, those activities are likewise not sponsored by NRPCA and therefore not covered by PCA Insurance.**

Here’s some very pertinent information from Tony Giovinazzo.

The 2019 Niagara On The Road Drivers Ed event is taking shape. The plan is to attend the CHIN Motorsports DE school on October 5 & 6, 2019. There are a few things to know to get registered for the event as well as registering as a driver for CHIN.

The first rule is that CHIN will allow an instructor to instruct at a given track ONLY if they have driven the track before. Since most of us have NOT driven Road Atlanta, our plan is to register and drive as ‘open track’ drivers. We would get 3.5 hours of track time each day.

Before we get too far ahead of ourselves, here is how we go about registering. The link below will take you to CHIN’s website. I would suggest you review all the relevant info about how their schools work. One has to ‘join’ CHIN as a member, which is a $50.00 fee. This fee is a 13 month membership. (if you’ve driven RA before and want to sign up as an instructor, the fee will most likely be waived). Once registered as a member, the next step is to register for the event. Last years fee for the event was $639.00 for the two days. 2019 prices for October have not yet been released. Registration opens eight (8) weeks prior to the event. That puts registration opening somewhere around the week of August 5. They will show ‘registration opens’ dates as the summer gets going and well ahead of opening date. Once known, we will share that date.

From a planning standpoint, we need to be registered as members and then register and pay for the event on opening day or within the first couple of days. I have been assured that this should almost guarantee attendance. If we wait a week or two, the event may be filled up. As always, early registration is best.

If you think you may attend, save the dates. We will establish a mailing list to keep people updated and send reminders about registering as members and drivers. Instructors are available for registrants, but I believe there is an additional fee for that. ($75.00) Once we have an idea on numbers travelling, we can look at travel plans, hotels etc, and, hopefully, secure a block of rooms near the track. Camping is available at the track if you’re interested. Please let Rich or me know if you’re interested and we’ll start the unofficial registration process.
